L'église

Parmi les premiers missionnaires travaillant dans cette région au début du 19e siècle, on compte Lorenzo Dow, un prêcheur méthodiste "zélé" venu du Vermont. En 1835, les Méthodistes bâtirent une petite chapelle de pierre qu'ils vendirent plus tard à l'église catholique de Saint-Jacques. L'actuelle église fut construite en 1862. Ses murs extérieurs sont recouverts de briques et son toit, en ardoises. Elle a une forme rectangulaire avec un choeur en saillie avec chevet plat. Son intérieur contient 12 vitraux, exécutés par un artiste inconnu, installés en 1905.

L'orgue

L'orgue a été fabriqué par la firme Edward Lyle & Sons, de Toronto, et fut présenté par la famille de Sir Edward Kemp, en souvenir de leur mère.

Le "Manual Sub Bass 16" est emprunté, au moyen d'un raccord tubulaire, aux 14 premières notes du Bourdon 16' de la pédale. Le tirant "Manual Sub Bass 16" met le Bourdon 16' de la pédale (notes 1 à 30) et fait jouer aussi les notes 1 à 14 depuis le clavier manuel. Ainsi, un organiste peu expérimenté sur les pédales peut obtenir une basse de 16' avec la main.

The church

Lorenzo Dow, a "zealous" Methodist preacher from Vermont, was among the early missionaries working in this area in the early part of the ninteeth century. In 1835, the Methodists built a small stone chapel, later sold to St. Jacques Roman Catholic Church. The present brick church was built in 1862. The building has a rectangular form with a protruding chancel and a flat apse. There are 12 stained glass windows, executed by an unknown artist and installed in 1905.

The organ

The pipe organ was built by Edward Lyle & Sons, of Toronto, and was given by Sir Edward Kemp's family, in memory of their mother.

The Manual Sub Bass 16' is borrowed by tubular-pneumatic action from the bottom 14 notes of the 30-note Pedal Bourdon 16'; drawing the Manual Sub Bass 16' drawknob brings on the Pedal Bourdon 16', notes 1-30, and makes notes 1-14 also playable on the manual keyboard, so that an organist not proficient in playing the pedals can obtain the 16' pitch in the bass.
